The Fall of the Berlin Wall
University project exploring the relationship between typography and imagery. For my response to the brief I chose to explore the events of the fall of the Berlin Wall. This project won an examiner’s award. I set the transcript of the famous speech given by President Ronald Reagan, given prior to the wall falling, with imagery taken before, during and after the wall fell.
The first section of the booklet explores the events prior to the fall of the wall and the imagery is monochrome to reflect the oppression the wall brought to Berlin. The middle section of the booklet depicts the event of the wall falling, introducing more colour to the imagery. The final section of the booklet utilises bright colours to symbolises the sense of freedom and joy that the fall of the wall brought. Certain messages contained within the speech were emphasised due to their wider context within the cold war and paired with relevant imagery.
